SCARR 2024 Overview

SCARR is an organized, family off-road event for Land Rover enthusiasts. The annual event attracts people from around the country to experience the off-road capabilities of their Rovers. There are guided trail runs for beginners, intermediate levels, and for anybody not familiar with the trails. As we celebrate our 18th event, we have once again reserved the entire Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area park for Rovers only. SCARR is an exciting event for any Rover enthusiast!

“There is literally something for everyone at SCARR.”

Activities abound including the ladies-only Barbara Toy Tribute Run, lectures, off-road training, and kid’s activities such as the Radio Control Car Time Challenge and a movie night with root beer floats. Each year, attendees forge life long memories with friends and families. We look forward to seeing you at SCARR!

SCARR  T-shirts can be purchased for $20 at the time of registration.

You must order and pre-pay for your shirt as additional shirts will not be

offered for sale at the event.

SCARR Fees and Registration

Regular registration will open on January 9, 2024.

 We intend fees to be in line with the prior years when we had a closed park, but are dependent on actual levels of sponsorship income and vendor expenses as we continue our event planning and preparations.

SCARR Event Location Details


Texas Rovers will be hosting SCARR at Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area

in Gilmer, Texas - a beautiful 1,850-acre premier off-road park. BMRA offers primitive

and electric camping sites as well as shower and bathroom facilities

located near the front of the park. Attendees should also familiarize

themselves with the park's regulations: Barnwell Mountains Safety

Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area

6284 State Highway 155 N   Gilmer, TX 75645




From Gilmer, TX, turn east onto State Highway 155 North (this is a stoplight). Go approximately 5 miles; as you start to climb a hill, look for a green sign on the left that points to the right reading "Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area". Be sure to watch for the turnoff because it is at the crest of the hill. You will miss it if you are not paying attention. This sign is directly across the highway from the entrance. Turn right, check-in at the gate, and proceed up the hill to the office where you will finish the check-in process.




SCARR Lodging



Camp Mabey is the main campsite for SCARR. Follow the signs back to the camp - it’s
about a 10-minute drive. Old Camp will be another established campsite
where the Fun Zone will reside for the wee
k. There are several other areas
and campsites scattered around the park that attendees are welcome to take
advantage of. Whatever campsite you choose to use, please be respectful and
make sure to leave it cleaner than you found it.


RV Accommodations

RV’s are welcome at SCARR. There are Premium Sites (water and electric) and additional (electric only) spots located across from the Premium Sites. A dump station is available for anyone to use at no charge. RV sites can be reserved on the Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area website at


Cabin & Bunkhouse Accommodations

Barnwell Mountain offers cabins and bunkhouses for rent. All cabins have hot and cold running water, a bathroom with a shower, heat and air conditioning, a sink, microwave, grill, refrigerator, and satellite TV. You must bring your own cookware, linens and bathroom supplies. Bunkhouses are located near the pavilion and bath facility. Each bunkhouse is equipped with a full bed and bunk beds, heat and air conditioning, a porch swing, a picnic table, satellite TV, and a grill. The bunkhouses have no water or plumbing but are only a short walk from the bath facility.​ Cabins and Bunkhouses can be reserved on the Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area website at  Please note: The availability of these will vary and may already be reserved.

The city of Gilmer has 2 hotels which are an estimated 15 minutes from the park.
